August 26, 200817 yr I keep having problems with the system locking up and then when I restart it the parity check starts and that takes 18 hours to complete, assuming it does not have a problem. It seems to happen when copying files to a particular drive. The last time, I totally reformatted the drive, let the system re-recognize, etc. Now it has happened again. Was copying some moves over from another drive and it locked up the system and had to do a restart. The system comes up and went thru the parity check. It was still running this morning when I came in. After about 30 mins, I noticed the drives were not flashing so I tried to access it, but it would not so had to do a reboot again and another parity check is running. The drive in question now shows 3 plain folders under the filder I was copying to. If I check either of the folders, they too just have 3 folders under them, etc., etc. Any suggestions.
August 26, 200817 yr 1. Check the cables to that drive. Reseat them if possible. 2 Post your syslog file (see the wiki for instructions) and let people have a look at it (identify which drive it is that is in question). How many drives are in your system. 18hours for a parity check seems like a long time.
August 26, 200817 yr Author All drives in the cages but I have checked cables. The drive in question was moved to another position after the first time. I have 12 1tb drives plus 1 500gig drive plus the 1tb parity drive.
