Recommended Posts

I had a defective smasung spinpoint. RMA procedure, got a seagate/samsung back.

Now running a preclear and see what the smart readout at start displays:

Looks pretty new to me:

  4 Start_Stop_Count        0x0032  100  100  000    Old_age  Always      -      3

  9 Power_On_Hours          0x0032  100  100  000    Old_age  Always      -      0

12 Power_Cycle_Count      0x0032  100  100  000    Old_age  Always      -      3

This looks a little odd:

195 Hardware_ECC_Recovered  0x001a  100  100  000    Old_age  Always      -      526

Perhaps you had problems when you first connected it?

You think that it should spin up more quickly?  You may be right.

I believe that the manufacturers usually say that warranty replacements may be refurbished back to full factory specification.  This would include resetting all the stored statistics.

That entry went into 6 or 7 numbers long errors...

I did 3 preclears at the same time, and that was more often an issue, so will run this one again alone..

The initial value of 100 has not changed, ignore the RAW value, ALL drives have ECC hardware correction.  Some report it, some do not.  Until the normalized value reaches 0 (the affiliated failure threshold) there is no issue.

I'm almost positive that the replacement seagate drive I have received (as well as the 2 replacement WD drives) have all indicated on the sticker affixed to the drive that they were indeed refurbished units.  I precleared them all 5x before adding them to my array.
