downloadski
I had a defective smasung spinpoint. RMA procedure, got a seagate/samsung back. Now running a preclear and see what the smart readout at start displays: ID# ATTRIBUTE_NAME FLAG VALUE WORST THRESH TYPE UPDATED WHEN_FAILED RAW_VALUE 1 Raw_Read_Error_Rate 0x000f 253 253 051 Pre-fail Always - 0 3 Spin_Up_Time 0x0007 074 074 011 Pre-fail Always - 8690 4 Start_Stop_Count 0x0032 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 3 5 Reallocated_Sector_Ct 0x0033 100 100 010 Pre-fail Always - 0 7 Seek_Error_Rate 0x000f 253 253 051 Pre-fail Always - 0 8 Seek_Time_Performance 0x0025 100 100 015 Pre-fail Offline - 0 9 Power_On_Hours 0x0032 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 0 10 Spin_Retry_Count 0x0033 100 100 051 Pre-fail Always - 0 11 Calibration_Retry_Count 0x0012 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 0 12 Power_Cycle_Count 0x0032 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 3 13 Read_Soft_Error_Rate 0x000e 253 253 000 Old_age Always - 0 183 Runtime_Bad_Block 0x0032 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 0 184 End-to-End_Error 0x0033 100 100 000 Pre-fail Always - 0 187 Reported_Uncorrect 0x0032 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 0 188 Command_Timeout 0x0032 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 0 190 Airflow_Temperature_Cel 0x0022 084 084 000 Old_age Always - 16 (Min/Max 16/16) 194 Temperature_Celsius 0x0022 080 080 000 Old_age Always - 20 (Min/Max 16/20) 195 Hardware_ECC_Recovered 0x001a 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 526 196 Reallocated_Event_Count 0x0032 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 0 197 Current_Pending_Sector 0x0012 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 0 198 Offline_Uncorrectable 0x0030 100 100 000 Old_age Offline - 0 199 UDMA_CRC_Error_Count 0x003e 253 253 000 Old_age Always - 0 200 Multi_Zone_Error_Rate 0x000a 253 253 000 Old_age Always - 0 201 Soft_Read_Error_Rate 0x000a 253 253 000 Old_age Always - 0 spin up time 8690 ?? StevenD
Every seagate replacement Ive received in the last couple of years are refurbs. I never checked the power-on hours though. I have a new one coming this week and I will check on it. Link to comment
vca
I think the "spin up time" is how long it takes the drive to get started and spun up to speed, while the "power on hours" is how long it has been in service. Stephen Link to comment
PeterB
Looks pretty new to me: 4 Start_Stop_Count 0x0032 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 3 9 Power_On_Hours 0x0032 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 0 12 Power_Cycle_Count 0x0032 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 3 This looks a little odd: 195 Hardware_ECC_Recovered 0x001a 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 526 Perhaps you had problems when you first connected it? spin up time 8690 ?? You think that it should spin up more quickly? You may be right. I believe that the manufacturers usually say that warranty replacements may be refurbished back to full factory specification. This would include resetting all the stored statistics. Link to comment
downloadski
This looks a little odd: 195 Hardware_ECC_Recovered 0x001a 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 526 Perhaps you had problems when you first connected it? That entry went into 6 or 7 numbers long errors... I did 3 preclears at the same time, and that was more often an issue, so will run this one again alone.. Link to comment

The initial value of 100 has not changed, ignore the RAW value, ALL drives have ECC hardware correction. Some report it, some do not. Until the normalized value reaches 0 (the affiliated failure threshold) there is no issue. Link to comment
StevenD
just fyi...i received a refub yesterday and the power on hours was zero. Link to comment
sureguy
I'm almost positive that the replacement seagate drive I have received (as well as the 2 replacement WD drives) have all indicated on the sticker affixed to the drive that they were indeed refurbished units. I precleared them all 5x before adding them to my array. Link to comment
dikkiedirk
Happened to me too, but was a RMA from Western Digital Germany. Link to comment
