December 9, 201213 yr i just left 2 new disks overnight on preclear and after waking this morning it shows steps 1-10 are done but then at the bottom says sorry disk/sdh mbr could not be precleared. any suggestions on what to do now? they are unjumpered wd 2.0tb green drives and im on 5.0rc8 so i did not use the -a command
December 9, 201213 yr post a smart report for the disks what is your Default partition format setting in unraid? (you can find it under disk settings) afaik, the preclear script will use that default setting, unless you tell it otherwise with -a or -A.

If the post-read of the disks could not read back all zeros, that is what you would see. As described, post a smart report for the drive for more clues, although often times the drive shows no other symptoms other than a read of the drive does not return the expected contents of a sector. December 10, 201213 yr its set at mbr unaligned i belive that is that problem? im currently running it again so i canot obtail a smart report Just log in via another telnet session and get the smart report. MBR alligned/un-alligned has absolutely no affect on a preclear. (other than where it starts the partition) If you type fdisk -lu /dev/sdh you can see if the partition starts on sector 63 (unalligned) or sector 64 (alligned) Joe L.
December 10, 201213 yr Author thx for the replies. i pre cleared both disks successfully in my other machine. when i ran the preclear in my main rig both drives were conected to a 2 port sata card and were connected to a splitter so i think maybe that was the issue
January 21, 201313 yr Author i have tried to add another drive to my machine. this is the third drive i have tried to preclear when connected to my add in 2 port sata card that failed. should i stop running the add in card? i dont want it to cause me issues in the future. is it possible its not compatible. http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX30623 thats the card im using. i have attached a smart report also. thx smart.txt
