Cannot see unraid server from new HTPC

Featured Replies

Hey guys I just salvaged an old computer and made it a new HTPC. I installed an old copy of Windows Vista Home Basic 32bit ont he existing 160GB drive and added a 3TB drive for local storage. I added it to the workgroup my unraid server and other PCs are on.

However when I go into " Network " I cannot see the unraid server, I can only see my other PCs.

I am wanting to transfer a heap of media to the new HTPC as I am giving it to my dad but I am unable to do this.

How do I get my new HTPC to see my unraid server through network?

*edit* I can also access the server through //tower:8080 from the new HTPC.

you can simply type "\\tower" into the windows explorer location bar. (if that doesn't help, try to restart smb on your server (go to setting->smb->hit apply))

These did not work unfortunately

Go to 'Control Panel',  'System', and 'Computer Name, Domain and Workgroup settings'  Now click on 'Change Settings'.  On click on 'Change'

Set it to 'Workgroup' and change the workgroup name to the name of your unRAID workgroup...

Click 'Apply' or 'OK' all the way back out...

Try typing in the ip address of the unraid "\\###.###.###.###"

So while I was checking some settings out I noticed that this new htpc was given the same name as an existing pc on the network. i changed its name to something else and I can now see my unraid server " TOWER " in the network folder of windows.

thanks.
