August 30, 200817 yr I'm looking to use a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS4 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128064, looking at the southbridge all the documentation I can look at says it has 3Gb/s(384MB/s)to the 6 sata drives on the southbridge ICH9R it doesn't say if its 3Gb/s for each port or total. Anyone happen to know which the bandwidth works on this MB/southbridge?
August 31, 200817 yr 300Gb/s for each port. I'd say that even 64MB/s would be the extreme upper limit during parity calculation (if it's even possible right now - I just haven't seen it here). Here is a breakdown of the P35 chipset, components and resepctive bandwidth paths (link).
August 31, 200817 yr Author Yeah I'm mainly trying to decide which MB sata port to connect the parity drive to for best performance. As the 2x SATA ports connect via the pcie express bus, which is where the x4 pcie connects(furture x4 pcie adapter card w/4 HD's), and giga LAN connection. And then there's the 6x SATA connection that have 3Gb/S per port. I have a PCI LAN card which I think I'm going to use since its going into a 100 Mbps switch anyways, that way theres more open bandwidth on the express bus. So it's looking like connecting the Parity drive to 6x sata ports would be the best for performance. I haven't been able to find what exactly the bandwidth is on the express bus itself.
September 9, 200817 yr When using only 6 drives on the ICH9R chipset, i got the parity drive build at more than 60Mo/s It droped when puting 8 drives to 40-50Mo/s
