[Solved] Migrate unraid to vmware

Featured Replies

Hey all.

Is it possible to take a working unraid system (3 drives) and migrate it to a vmware machine on ESXi without losing or having to move all your data?

I'm certainly not an expert, but I do know its possible as I've managed to do just that.

Just to give you an idea, I was able to install ESXi onto a flash drive, boot off it, then create and boot an unRAID virtual machine with access to my data as normal.  I was also able to unplug the ESXi flash drive and boot back into unRAID without ESXi, data still intact.

I think a large part of how successful you will be depends on your hardware.  Check out this thread, I found lots of useful information here: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=14695.0

Hope this helps!
