3tb choices for N40L - tosh / seagate/wd green

Featured Replies

Given the wife moaning about by empty N40L sitting in its box since easter, I need to finally buy my drives.

Looking at 3*3TB running unraid for my media collection serving several WDTV boxes

Australian Tech shops has the following 3TB drives all at 139

Toshiba 3TB 7200RPM HDD

Seagate SATA3 3TB 7200RPM Barracuda 64mb Cache

Western Digital 3TB Green 64MB SATA 3 WD30EZRX

Thoughts ?

I have the seagate model in my n40l. Only reason I went with the brand was it had a 2 year warranty and was the cheapest at the time. Since they are the same price, go with the one that gives you the longest warranty?:P

Honesty, it is your own preference.

I have had 4x LP Hitachi's and 4x Seagate 7200's. they were all about the same performance wise. the seagates with the 1TB platters did seem to preclear and parity check a tad faster.

I would prefer hitachi, but those are now history....

Some reviews online say the WD greens tend to be a little slower of all of the 3TB drives. I have never used one, so I cant verify that.

Toshiba (they are Hitachis really) with a 3 year warranty, if you can get it.
