December 20, 201213 yr Hey guys, so i have been reading the Wiki to boot up my unRaid server, I get to this point where i have to shut the server off, then move my USB drive to another PC and find the mcedit file...etc I added screens of my USB drive and where I'm stuck, basically i can't find the mcedit on the USB.
December 20, 201213 yr Plug the flash into your PC and navigate to the 'config' folder. Edit the file to look something like this: USE_DHCP=no IPADDR=192.168.1.10 <--- put your desired IP address instead NETMASK=255.255.255.0 <---- your desired subnet mask GATEWAY=192.168.1.1 <---- your desired gateway address DHCP_KEEPRESOLV=no DNS_SERVER1=192.168.1.1 <---- your desired dns server DNS_SERVER2= DNS_SERVER3=
December 20, 201213 yr Author Will do, now all i did was DL the unRaid 5 FW onto the drive (per wiki) but there was a highly recommended download as well , un something ?
December 20, 201213 yr Do you normally have to enter IP address information for your computers? If not, you probably have DHCP & do not need to edit the file. If you do normally have to enter IP address information, you do not have to use mcedit. mcedit is not a file... it is a text editor. If you are more comfortable using Windows, Notepad++ is a good program to edit text files. The file you will be editing (if you need to set a specific IP for this computer) is in the config directory & the file is named network.cfg
December 20, 201213 yr Author no, i don't believe i have ever set an ip address manually, do i still have to config the file like it said in Wiki ? (its one of the attachments i added) if yes, i cant find the location its asking about and should i try limetech's way ?
December 20, 201213 yr The first line of the attachment says "If you do not have a DHCP server on your network, you must manually edit the file". Most home routers have DHCP in them by default. I don't think you will need to manually edit the network.cfg file. If you have never manually setup your IP address (or had someone do it for you), you have DHCP. If you get curious & want to know more about DHCP http://www.whatismyip.com/ip-faq/what-is-dhcp/ has a little info. You do not need to read up on this to continue your install...
December 20, 201213 yr Author So i stopped with the settings from the server and screen (i have a screen set up with my server) and i used the http://tower settings....is that correct or should i finish the dos based settings ? I stopped with the dos based settings right at the point i started this thread, found the YouTube video that's explaining everything compared to the wiki that is setting up the server settings form the server.
December 20, 201213 yr This tutorial/guide might be handy for you if you have not seen it yet. It is what i used to setup my first unraid server. http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php?title=Configuration_Tutorial
December 20, 201213 yr I never edited the network.cfg. I just booted, went to a computer on the network, went to http://tower. Then set my static IP from the webgui.
