We have a couple planned builds in early 2013 and have been seeking advice about HOW "recent" MoBo's perform with unRAID/ESXi

 

Our reason behind the demand for higher end Server boards and processors is as follows:

- Goal: Build once but be able to expand (add a secondary processor or improve the processor etc)

 

 

** Transcoding: We want to have multi-core build out possible.

** ESXi and Windows Hyper V: We have the need to build one of each type to test in a Pilot - supporting 25 VDI's (Virtual Desktops)

** unRAID: Primary reason for the build is to store 25-40tb of data

 

 

 

If anyone has any experience with either Single or Dual Processor LGA 2011 boards please advise.
