UnRAID doesn't use installed cache drive

Featured Replies

i'm missing something here... i installed a cache drive, formatted it and everything, set the share to use cache drive; but when i copy files into server it just goes to the main disks. skips the cache drive entirely. see screenshot; settings should be fine.

When you copy things over, are you copying to the disk share or the user share?  Disk Share will bypass the cache whereas the user share will use the cache.

i was copying to the user share from a windows computer. so- copying from my home pc hard drive, just copy and paste to the user share in "my computer"

If you put something in a user share that uses cache the cached files for that user share are considered to be part of that user share and can be seen and manipulated in that user share.

What makes you think they are not on the cache?

How'd you check that the files were not on the cache? You can't tell by looking at the user share.

Look on the disk shares. There is a cache disk share.

hmmm maybe it is working now. (been away from workstation for many days, sorry).. when i was checking before i was looking at the disks on \\tower and checking the reads and writes and it was never writing from the cache drive. but now it has several writes so maybe it has been copying over.

it is hard for me to tell because network speed is currently my limiting factor for copying files over from PC to unraid server. which leads me to another problem if anyone has any ideas....

... i can't get gigabit to work for transfers from PC to server. i know the unraid box has gigabit working because i checked it in the ethtool settings and it reads gigabit connection. so there seems to be some problem on my PC side but i have no idea how to get that working. the NIC drivers are all up to date with what is most current, but i have no idea what the problem is...
