Advice needed

Hi,

I've currently got unraid 4.7 set up with sickbeard, sabnzb & playstation media server (ps3ms).  All is running fine.  Only 2TB of data, so not a massive system.  I just need some advice on how to tackle installing plex.

I just bought an LG TV, which can  use Plex for media, so I'm thinking I could ditch ps3ms (which has been causing me grief lately, crashing, and not refreshing files) and use Plex for DLNA, and an improve interface on the LG TV.  I also have a WDTV, PS3, Samsung Smart Blueray, and iOS devices what I stream to.

My main issue is that I'm happy running 4.7, with a SNAP drive (apps) for running all the applications on.  To run plex, do I have to upgrade to unraid 5, and do I need a cache drive to run plugins?

You can continue to use the SNAP drive for applications.

You can continue to use the SNAP drive for applications.

Thanks.  Now for the nightmare that is upgrading.  Any tips?  I was going to use a new key, with 5RC8a on it without any plugins/apps.  Run that, and make sure data is intact.  Then start installing plugins in the following order.  SNAP to mount the apps drive, SABNZB, Sickbeard, and Plex all running from the apps drive.

Will SNAP boot before the SABNZB, Sickbeard and Plex plugins start installing to it on a reboot?

just as an heads up... there had been several cases, where the snap-mounted drive was not ready at the time, when the sabnzbd, sickbeard, etc. plugins started...

that's one of the reasons, i wrote my own drive mount plugin (see signature) (there seems to be some bugs currently, which i will fix as soon as possible (probably after christmas))

Update: just read your first post completely :)

i'm not sure, if plex works with unraid 4.7... you are safer with upgrading...

you don't need a cache drive to run the plugins. i always recommend to use either a cache drive or a special apps drive. if neither is available, you can also use an array disk.

Thanks Benni-chan.  I'll give you plugin a go again.  I tried it ages ago when I first started with unraid on b14.  I downgraded to 4.7, but with that I learned a lot about unraid, and linux.

I think I'll have to bite the bullet and upgrade to 5rc8a.  I was hanging out for a final, but by the look of the forums it's pretty stable, and will allow me to run Plex and other apps.

Plex looks fantastic on the LG TV by the way, a complete upgrade from PS3MS.  I'm currently running it though my PC though.

+1 for benni's plug in. Works great!
