December 25, 201213 yr So I am not in need at the moment for storage but soon I may. Assuming unraid can handle 5tb I plan on purchasing 3-5. provided they are priced reasonably. anybody else waiting?
December 25, 201213 yr There should be no issues with drive sizes supported by unraid in the next 5 years if not longer.
December 25, 201213 yr I doubt they will be priced reasonably. Current 4TB drives aren't, they are double the 3TB price in the UK. Personally just hoping they drive down the 4TB price down so I can start using those to repalce my 1.5's

Current 4TB drives aren't, they are double the 3TB price in the UK.No, they aren't. eBuyer have been selling Hitachi 4TB (in enclosures) for £129 and you can get a bare 7200rpm for £159: http://www.ebuyer.com/393234-hitachi-4tb-7k4000-desktar-hard-drive-hds724040ale640

That's a very good point. We need USB 3.0 drivers for unRAID. I'd mount a 4TB USB 3.0 external drive "as cache" while it "burned in" and only crack it open after a year, or maybe longer. The bare Hitachis have been sold in the UK for not a great deal more than the ones in enclosures, though. Did you check the serial of the bare drive against a warranty checker? All of my old Seagate 1.5TB drives that were in enclosures are still under warranty because the bare drive had its own warranty.
December 26, 201213 yr Haha ... I just had to 'special order' a 2TB WD last week. When it arrived, I discovered that it was an EARX model - the first one I've seen.
