Could someone take a look at these preclear reports and let me know if the drive is bad as I suspect it is.

 

I bought the disk new 3 weeks ago, it precleared fine initially and I replaced my smaller parity disk with it. Everything was fine up until 2 days ago when the GUI displayed errors on the disk, and the syslog was filled with media errors like this:

 

ata3.00: cmd 60/00:10:4f:80:81/04:00:66:00:00/40 tag 2 ncq 524288 in

        res 41/40:64:eb:80:81/85:03:66:00:00/40 Emask 0x409 (media error) <F>

ata3.00: status: { DRDY ERR }

ata3.00: error: { UNC }

 

I ran a fresh preclear on this disk and it has just finished, the reports are below.

 

Can someone let me know if I need to RMA this disk, Thanks

I would RMA it.

 

Apparently it developed over 400 un-readable sectors, which were pending re-allocation prior to the pre-clear.

Then, it looks like they were re-written in place (not-re-allocated) but 1 sector was still un-readable in the post-read.

 

It will only cause you grief...  RMA it.
