Pre-clearing existing drive

Featured Replies

I have a configuration as:

sde = parity drive = 2TB Green

sdd = disk 1 = 1TB Black

sdb = disk 2 = 1TB Green

I have a new WD Red 3TB to use a the parity drive

I have precleared it.

I am going to switch the 2TB Green to the sdd position to remove then the 1TB Black altogether.

Once I have swapped it to the sde position as parity drive,  do I then have to preclear the 2TB Green ?

Thanks

one step at a time. this is what I would do:

1. preclear new 3TB drive.

2. replace Parity drive and recalc parity.

3. check parity to confirm calc successful.

4. preclear old 2TB parity drive.

5. replace 1TB black w/ precleared 2TB drive.

Thanks.  This is what I thought;  but can I clarify one aspect....

At stage 4,  I will then be operating my UNRAID with only the 3TB Parity drive and the 1 TB Green  (the @TB being pre-cleared for the next 24 hours).

Will my system operate OK ?

Do I need to stop the array for the 24 hours I am pre-clearing the drive for ?

Thanks.

The system should still be fine and accessible while preclearing the drive.
