January 2, 201313 yr I just ordered a SuperMicro motherboard for my new server: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813182211 I'm not sure how much memory to get, 4gb or 8gb. I do plan on running Plex and Subsonic and AirVideo on it. How much should I go for?
January 2, 201313 yr At the price of memory (I note that your choice of motherboard is ~$190), I would go with the 8GB. While unRAID will run with a very small amount of memory, it will put to good use any extra that you have installed. If nothing else, it will cache writes which will sped small transfers of data to the server.
January 3, 201313 yr I'll add my vote for 8 GB. RAM is dirt cheap these days with 2x2 GB going for ~$25 online and 2x4 GB going for ~$35. Not much of an added cost and you'll find a need for it eventually.
