User Shares on a basic license ?

Featured Replies

Hi, Just setting my first v5 box Do User Shares exist on a basic license ? If so, does the concept of Admin and guest exists ?

I'm hooking up 3 wdtv players and a couple of PC.

Shareable readonly exports for wdtv

- Movies

- TV

- Photo

PC read/write to

- Movies

- TV

- Photo

- Private ( Export read/write, hidden  ? )

Do the wdtv need a user/password to mount the shares ?

What username/password does the PC need to mount the shares in read/write ?

Thanks

So for a readonly / export share there is no login in the basic version ? and you can't have a super user who can write to the share via PC unless they mount the underlying disk , and write directly to that ?

How easy/quick is it to toggle a share to read/write to add, and then toggle it back if I wanted to write via share names instead of disk ?

The basic version has no User level security. All shares are public. I'm not sure what you're asking.

Whether a share can be read-only for non-login users, and then read-write version for root/admin to load new data.

If not, then if the readonly user share dvd is shared accross sda and sdb, and you write directly to sdb as a hidden disk share will the disk get rebalanced, or does the rebalance happen as part of of writing to the user share ?

My last post was wrong. The basic version does allow the creation of users. This is new with version 5. All users are able to read any share. Selected users have read-write access to share configured as Secure. A paid version is required for private shares.
