Does unRAID work on both PC and MAC networks

Featured Replies

I have a network with multiple PC's and multiple MAC's.  They're all networked and was wondering if unRAID can be seen from the Apple's.  Has anyone tried this from a mixed network and is there anything to watch out for when setting up?

There are no problems running unRAID with Macs.  Since I've started using unRAID my home network has been shifting from predominantly PC-based to predominantly Mac-based.

I've setup Avahi on my unRAID box to advertise itself over Bonjour, so my unRAID server appears automatically in Finder.  IMO, there's really no need to setup Apple File Sharing -- Samba does it all.

Not to derail the thread, but what did you need to do to set up Avahi on unRaid? I use macs and Bonjour support would be nice.

I'm actually running my unRAID on a hard drive install, so I just built it from source.  There might be a Slackware package for it available.  The configuration is really quite simple; it's only simple XML files that define what services are available via Bonjour.  It's probably something that you could install in your go script if you're technically inclined.  :)

Good luck!
