[SOLVED] Disk slots won't take assignments (edit: flash drive read-only?)

I did a system hardware upgrade with a disk migration.  I went from an old Dell GX270 with a Silicon Image 4 port PCI SATA card, all together hosting 6 drives.  The new system is an Intel board with 6 native SATA ports.  The future plan is to be able to add more drives (both physically in the case and via expansion options of the new motherboard) so I had originally left the SI card in, although only one original drive was connected to it and another new drive connected to the motherboard.

 

The plan was to have the 6 drives assigned in Devices, allow everything to settle, then, eventually, add the extra drive to the array.  Upon powering up 4 of the disk device slots were still showing as being set to the SI card (local SATA seems to be HBA 0 while the card looks to be HBA 1.)  Slots that were on local detect the drive correctly, slots still set to the HBA simply show a port with "(no device)".

 

Even though the drop-down boxes are available I am unable to set any devices.  Upon setting the page refreshes and the original assignment remains.  I am unable to set them to neither the correct drive nor "Unassigned".

 

I have tried pulling the SI SATA card and only attaching the original drive, no change. I also tried fully populating the SI SATA card as well as pulling all the drives from the system to attempt to set all devices as "Unassigned", but nothing seems to allow me to update the settings.  It seems as though the configuration is locked in some way.

 

In full disclosure, at some point in the past, well over a year ago, I don't remember exactly, I did attempt to use 5.x and went back to 4.7; I can't remember all the details, including why I went back to 4.7.  The reason I bring it up is that I'm not fully sure how the "downgrade" process went, such as if I re-built the config at the time or whatever.

 

At this point I'm mainly looking to get all the data in while avoiding having to fully re-build the parity (it would take 16 hours on the old system, while I imagine it'd be quicker on this one, I still would like to use the data tonight.)

 

The system is on an Intel DQ965GF motherboard with a Celeron D, 2GB of RAM.  Drives are a fairly varied mix of WD Green's, a WD Black (parity), and a couple Seagate Barricuda's.  5 of them are 1.5TB, one is 1TB.  UnRAID is version 4.7 Pro running on a 1GB USB stick.

Update: no other setting will stay, either.  I presume the file system on the USB key is in Read Only (there is no hardware switch), somehow.  I see mentions of that in the syslog, but I don't know much about how that works.

There was a file error in the secrets.tdb file.  Upon trying to make a copy of all the files in Windows for a backup before I started messing with stuff, it errored on the secrets.tdb file.  After a chkdsk in Windows the file dissapeared and a FILE0000.CHK was left in a FOUND.000 folder.

 

Simply re-inserting the USB drive in the system seemed to replace the file and everything seems to be in order, I can make assignments and all other settings seem to be intact.  I didn't have any passwords on anything, though, so if that's where it stores them, well, oh well.

 

Is there anything else I should worry about?
