January 8, 201313 yr I am looking to build my first unraid server and I have a question regarding what type of CPU to choose. I know that unraid uses very little CPU power but I want it to be able to stream 1080p videos to up to 5 different devices flawlessly. Some of these devices include tablets, htpc, desktops, and PS3 so the CPU will need to do on the fly transcoding. Because of this, I plan to install multiple add-ons such as plex and airplay. And obviously, since this unraid server will be on 24/7 I would like the CPU to consume as little power as possible. So, what type of CPU would you guys recommend for me? I don't have a particular budget but I would like to keep it as cheap as possible but still be powerful enough to stream HD video to 5 devices simultaneously.
January 8, 201313 yr Not knowing what hardware you will be reusing I would suggest an I3 sandy or ivy. The ivy should save you a little electricity, but will cost a little more upfront.
January 20, 201313 yr As you say that budget doesn't a big deal for you that's why i would like to recommend you this http://www.computervalley.ca/bx80637i53570/64b-mpu-bx80637i-3400g-6mb-sr0t-922461 one for you it's third generation as well as the price also less now it's your decision.
