merging two unraid servers as 1

Featured Replies

I have an unraid pro server now with 15 drives in it. they range from 500 to 1 tb it is filling up fast and once they are all 1 tb drives id like two build another one.  is there a way, once the two are up and running to merge them so they act as one on my desktop? I have a feeling this is more a desktop configuration thing but am not sure.

I can't speak for the linux side of things, but from a Windows perspective, the only way I can see you getting even close it by running a third server with a Server OS (2000, 2003 or 2008) and making use of their Distributed File System (DFS) capabilities.  However, this won't provide you with the same "span/merge" effect that unRAID provides with user shares across multiple disks - it will only provide a single point of access for multiple share locations.  If there are any software solutions that can provide this type of access, I am not aware of them.

Ok thanks. i just bought a new mb, processor, ect. to run as a server for Cinemar's MLServer anyway so maybe ill look into that.  I just built a large custom case with enough room for about 3 unraids with 15 disks in each so i was hoping to find a way to link them all together a little bit more cleanly.  thanks for the advice. keep it coming

I thought I remember reading about a fuse module that made this a possibility.  ???

Maybe it's unioniong I am thinking of.
