doesn't even boot?? [5.0-RC10]

Featured Replies

so i have been building a new setup and changed my mobo and cpu, the rest came out the working server that has been running 5.0-RC8 for quite some time... when it was time to have it run i noticed the new RC release and couldn't resist  :P

to my very surprise, it doesn't even boot (well, not entirely).. it keeps hanging at the first line you see at booting

SYSLINUX 3.72 2008-09-25 EBIOS Copyright © 1994-2008 H Peter Anvin

then i took out the USB and put 4.7 on it and everything works

have to retry it again with another release tomorrow or check permissions or something

What did you copy from the release zip file to the flash?  If only bzimage & bzroot, it should work, but if perhaps you copied over syslinux, you'll have to click on 'make_bootable' again.

yes that solved it  :o

while hacking away i got once that it couldn't find the linux image... didn't know it ment the syslinux file

but the problem i have is that i can't run 'make_bootable' as i have an all Mac enviroment

however just replacing that file with the one from the 4.7 download does work!

I just wanted to post that on both my work and personal Unraid systems they both hung up on reboot after upgrading to RC9 on home and rc10 at work. I ran make bootable and it started up no problem.

Its an easy enough fix, but annoying that so far 2 of my 3 unraid systems have required that I run the make bootable again.  My last unraid system is still running 4.7 so I probably won't touch it until after 5 goes final.  It sounds like your problem/fix may have been slightly different but I thought it was worth sharing my troubles.

When you upgraded did you only copy over bzimage and bzroot from the zip file, or did you copy over other files as well (like menu.c32).

I can say I am 100% sure I only copied those 2 files on my work Unraid system as I upgraded my personal first, and after having issues I saw comments of ensuring you only copy those 2 files. On my personal Unraid system I can't say for sure that it was only those 2 as I dragged and dropped the files without giving much thought.
