January 14, 201313 yr Hi guys, I have installed a cache drive but how do I move the apps on to the cache drive? Or have I misunderstood how to use a cache drive. I thought you put the apps on their so when you download/transfer data across it go faster? Do the apps stay on the pen drive? Also I can't seem to transfer any files, unraid says there is no room on the share?
January 24, 201313 yr The primary use of a cache drive is to have faster transfers to your unRAID system since parity is not calculated on that copy. Then, at a predesignated time (daily, weekly, whatever you set... default is daily very early AM), the contents of the cache drive is automatically moved to your protected array. The cache drive can also be used as a destination to install apps/plugins that will persist after a reboot. Perhaps you can explain what your ultimate goals are? Under your share settings, there should be an option to "Use cache disk". You'll need to enable this setting on each user share you wish to utilize the cache drive. I'm not seeing that option in your screen shot.
