create image of my OS disk (pc) to my unraid

Featured Replies

Hi, I am running 5.0b11.

I wonder whatis the best way to create an image of my OS (pc) and save it to my Unraid.

I tried to do it using "paragon hard disk manager 12" boot cd, but it does not see my Unraid (no network is shown). Any idea what I am missing?

Rgds.

In Windows I just do a standard full Windows backup.  I have the share mounted as a drive letter and deposit it there.  I have restored from it, to the same hardware, different hardware, and a Virtual machine, all is great.

In full disclosure, I'm running 2008 R2 as my desktop OS, but the same works with Windows 7 and I'm pretty sure Vista.

Your immediate question, though, being you're doing it with a boot CD might be more local system related, though, if the Boot CD won't correctly bring up your network interface or access your network; this might be a question about your PC hardware more than UnRAID.  Otherwise, just about any drive imaging software that can put an image out to a Windows or Samba share should be able to put one out to UnRAID.

I installed Paragon in my pc (win 7 x64) and could do the image from my OS (within windows running). Now I tried again to boot from the recovery disk, and still cannot see the network with Unraid.

I think this may be the issue: I have my share not mounted as a drive letter. Can anyone point me out how to do that?

EDIT: I mounted the share as a drive letter, but still cannot see it booting up using the recovery CD. Just a question: Since I only have 1 pc and my Unraid running, when I shut down my pc, then start it again using the recovery cd (so i do not enter windows), is the network still running? I guess no, this is the reason why I don´t see it in the recovery environment, right? Is there no workaround?

"We" can't tell if the network interface on your computer is working with the Paragon recovery boot disk.    If your recovery platform can see other Windows shares that may be on your network, but not UnRAID, then it might be an UnRAID issue.  But, it sounds highly possible that this is a Paragon support issue, getting your network interface recognized in it's recovery platform.
