Updating my unRAID Server

Featured Replies

Hello,

I am looking at upgrading from my current Microserver based unRAID machine to something a little more powerful to fufill various other tasks.

Is there a guide on how to move the drives from one 'machine' to another without losing the structure or integrity?

Regards,

There is... but the Wiki's down.

But, it's pretty easy.  Just take a screenshot or print out your devices screen in UnRAID.  When you put the drives in the new system make the slots match up with the drives on your screenshot/printout.

You don't have to worry about the "SATA" order of drives, such as how the Motherboard and/or any SATA cards you might be using finds them, as long as it does (although, I would be sure to put the Parity and most used drives on the faster ports.)

The biggest one to worry about it the Parity slot, don't put a data drive in the Parity slot (nor put the parity drive in a "drive" slot.)  Putting a data drive in the Parity slot will likely result in lost data, but as long as all the drives are in the right slots the array should be easily start-able without requiring the parity to be re-built.

It was discussed here, at one point (I'm sure other places, too) http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=20412.0
