SMART - Current Pending Sector: 8

Featured Replies

I have a data drive that has a Current Pending Sector count of 8.  Unraid still shows it with a green ball.

I'm ready to replace the drive in the array, but have one primary concern: does the count indicate I currently have unreadable files, and if so, how can the parity drive help me out of this problem?  Is there a way I can identify which files (if any) are affected?

After I replace the drive, should I first go to the Hitachi fitness test, or try badblocks/preclear?

Thanks!

Other potentially relevant info:

This was a 3tb drive removed from an external case, not sure about warranty eligibility with Hitachi.

Just upgraded my parity drive from 3tb to 4tb, it completed recalc and is now verifying parity - but if a data drive has unreadable areas, how can parity be calculated properly?

This failing 3tb drive will be replaced with a 4tb when parity is validated.  Ideally I would wait and let the parity drive age a bit, but as the data drive is failing now, I think I should replace it ASAP.

System: N40L with ROM flash, Unraid 5.0rc10, Parity: sda 4TB, Data: sdb/sdc 3TB, sdd/sde 2TB
