Moving files into subdirectories.

Featured Replies

Hi,

Can you please help with the following:

I added several disks from an old build to my server. The thing is that the files on those disks were just "dumped" in a share called "Media". I now want to add subdirectories to this share like Bluray, MKV, TV Series, and then move the respective files to these subdirectories. Can this be done so the files won't be actually copied and stay on the disk they are now on? This saves a lot of time, I am talking about several TBs of data.

Maybe any of you guys have another way of doing this?

sure... use mc thru console, or copy within the disk share, unraid will move them instead of copying..

It might still be moved from diska to diskb? Will the cache disk be used then? I would like the files to stay on the disk they are on now.

Use the disk shares...  A file on /mnt/disk1 will stay on disk1 unless you move it to another disk.

So easy, why didn't I think of that? Probably because I haven't the separate disks exported.

If you use Midnight Commander from the console on the vCenter web Client for your unRAID VM (based on your sig your unRAID is in a VM) you don't need the disks exported to do the move.
