January 21, 201313 yr I currently have an unraid basic box running and am looking to upgrade. My buddy who got me into Unraid wants to give me his unraid pro usb stick. I am currently running the newest beta and his install is 4.8. What do I need to do in order to use his usb stick while keeping my current basic array. I would also like to upgrade to my 5.0 while im at it. Is there an easy way to erase his old array, upgrade his to the newest, and also keep my current setup files (go file, plug ins) etc.
January 21, 201313 yr The key is tied to the USB stick, not the version of unRAID or any particular set of data disks. The process is: - Make a backup of the license key file on your friends USB stick in case anything goes wrong and you need to reformat the USB stick. - Copy the file from your current system onto the new USB stick. This will set it up with the same version of unRAID and configuration as you currently have, but with a Pro license. - If you want to upgrade unRAID (presumably to5.0RC10) then copy the bzroot and bzimage files from the new unRAID release onto the USB stick replacing the files that are already there. You should not be ready to boot off the new USB stick and your array should be as it was when you started, but with the Pro license active.

I dont see a license file besides a .txt file?
January 21, 201313 yr The key file is in the 'config' directory (Folder) on the Flash Drive--- it has an extension of .key. Make sure that you have a copy of it before going further. (In fact, I would copy ALL of the files off of that Flash Drive before I started changing it over to use with my hardware. What I would do next is to delete all of the files off the flash drive. (You do have a copy of that .key file? RIGHT!!!!) Copy all of the FILES (note the plural) off your present flash drive to the Flash Drive that you got from your friend. This will install your present unRAID and configuration settings to the new Flash Drive. Now copy the .key file into the config directory. Insert the Flash Drive into your unRAID server and start it up. It should now come and running with pro version running. After you are satisfied that everything is working properly (I would run a non-correcting parity as a part of this process), you can upgrade to rc10. PS---- Do NOT delete any files of of your original FLASH DRIVE for at least a month after you get the new pro system running.
