Samba Fail "Transport endpoint"

Featured Replies

I just upgraded from 5.0-rc5 to 5.0-rc10, and my samba shares are malfunctioning now.  I am seeing behavior where my shares will stop working after about 5 minutes of use post-reboot.  Upon investigating my syslogs, this is all I see:

Jan 21 22:35:13 Tower avahi-daemon[1470]: Service "Tower" (/services/afp.service) successfully established.
Jan 21 22:35:13 Tower avahi-daemon[1470]: Service "Tower-SMB" (/services/smb.service) successfully established.
Jan 21 22:35:35 Tower ntpd_intres[1135]: DNS pool.ntp.org ->
Jan 21 22:35:36 Tower ntpd[1124]: Listen normally on 2 eth0 UDP 123
Jan 21 22:35:36 Tower ntpd[1124]: new interface(s) found: waking up resolver
Jan 21 22:38:48 Tower emhttp: get_filesystem_status: statfs: /mnt/user/Backup Transport endpoint is not connected
Jan 21 22:38:48 Tower emhttp: get_filesystem_status: statfs: /mnt/user/Home Videos Transport endpoint is not connec

I can stop the drives, reboot, and everything works for a few minutes before the issue happens again.  Any ideas what is causing this, or how to diagnosis it further?

Full syslog attached.

syslog.txt

make a post in the rc10 announcement thread.  Supply a link back to this one. Supply (attach) a full syslog, not just a few lines.

It will get more attention there, and the "transport endpoint" error message was mentioned in the release notes recently, and a new 'fuse" version introduced.

Updated.  Thanks for the input!

We've been chasing this bug for a while now.  I updated 'fuse' to 2.9.2 in -rc10 because of a similar issued with ntfs-3g described in this thread:

https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=146157

But it looks like this doesn't solve the issue and since you seem to be able to "make it happen" at will, we might be able to get to the bottom of it.  So with server in this state where shares are inaccessible, please post output of this command:

v /mnt/user

Next, we need to determine if a plugin is making this problem happen.  So please disable loading all plugins and don't install any other packages, reboot and let's see if the problem happens.

The only plugin I can think of that has ever been installed is Plex.  It is currently in the STOPPED state.

I ran the command 'v /mnt/user', and another ls command.  Here are the outputs:

root@Tower:/mnt# ls -l
/bin/ls: cannot access user: Transport endpoint is not connected
total 0
drwxrwxrwx 12 nobody users 296 2012-08-11 12:42 disk1/
d???  ? ?      ?       ?                ? user/
root@Tower:/mnt# v /mnt/user
/bin/ls: cannot access /mnt/user: Transport endpoint is not connected
root@Tower:/mnt#

When I rebooted the server and did the same command again, this is what I get:

root@Tower:~# v /mnt/user/
total 13
drwxrwxrwx 1 nobody      users  352 2012-12-18 21:57 Backup/

Additional testing:

I can create a file test.txt in one of the /mnt/user/ folders and save data to it without the shares crashing.  I just opened the Plex player, and I as soon as I tried to play a video the shares crashed.

Looks like it could be an issue with Plex, but I was able to play a little bit of a video yesterday so this seems to be something between both the new fuse and Plex.

Sounds like maybe some kind of race condition between Plex starting up and  unRaid starting up.  Maybe try manually invoking the plex plugin via command line after array is Started.

Plex is starting fine and I am able to access the information on the share for a bit before samba crashes.  This is a new issue since I upgraded unRaid.

Any other ways I could get log output for samba?

I just reverted to RC4, and the issue is fixed from what I can tell.  My Plex version remains unchanged, so it does appear to be an issue with RC10.

I installed RC11 tonight, and I have yet to have any failures.  I will come back and update if something happens, but right now it looks like RC11 solved this.  I will try to mark the thread as solved.

Re-opening this issue because it happened tonight for the first time in a long while.  I have attached a syslog.

The issue happened again immediately upon reset.  I have reverted back to RC4 to get unRAID into a working state again.

  • 3 weeks later...

I am having a similar issue.

Log looks the same as PleaseWorks'

It started to happen after I imported music into XBMC. When running through a library update it seems to crash. At first I thought it was a corrupt file or something but I have since removed any suspicious files.

Anywhere I can get a hold of a copy of RC4 if that seems to fix the issue?
