September 24, 200817 yr My largest concern from going from a NAS to a custom built server was that it was going to be like when I built my HTPC. 5 MB, 2 OS, lots of software and 2 years later I have it doing exactly what I want it to do. well it looks like it worked for me on the 1st try! Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe MB (8 sata) 2gb OCZ DDR-400, 2.4ghz AMD X2 6 HDD (1@1TB, 3@500gb, 1@250gb, 1@200gb) Corsair 550W PS Cheap $16 PCIe video card Lexar Firefly USB Unraid 4.3 Pro coolmaster 4in3 drive cage Old Ultra Case I put all the hardware together, tweeked the bios to boot off the usb drive and it just worked! Booted right away and at the tower promt It took me about an hour to figure out that I needed to log in from a remote IE using the IP address. All the drives were there and setting everything up was easy in the management tools. Formatted all the drives and took about 2-3hours for the parity to complete. After an hour all the drives spun down. Tomorrow I'm going to set up shares and start using the server for video, music, Tv ETC....... Future plans are to add 2-3 more 1tb Hdd and to buy this case w/a 2nd hot swapable bay on the left side.
