January 28, 201313 yr Hi guys, I've got the CORSAIR HX Series CMPSU-650HX 650W and am running with 22 drives right now (one is an SSD for my cache drive). Of those 22 drives, only one is currently a 7200RPM drive (my parity drive). I want to start upgrading to some 3TB drives but can't find any decent green ones. Will this PSU handle (5) ST3000DM001 (1 parity, 2 to replace (2) 1TB WD Green drives, 2 to add to the array). Thx!
January 28, 201313 yr The ST3000DM001 is rated for 2A on startup. You PSU is a single 12V rail, rated at 52A. ...I'd take 3A out for mobo, CPU+RAM for startup...plus 3A for all three of your M1015 (rated 7W each) That makes out to a total of 46A to drive the disks...good for 22 drives of the ST3000DM001 with 2A each model...and a spare/reserve of 2A. You could also try staggered spinup with your M1015...but I actually don't know if this applies to a total cold boot/startup, see: http://hardforum.com/showpost.php?p=1036260651&postcount=51
January 28, 201313 yr Author Many thx! So I should be good with a mix of Samsung HD154UI Hitachi HDS5C3020ALA632 Samsung HD204UI Western Digital WD15EADS
January 28, 201313 yr ...just check the startup power draw from the drive specs. The one from seagate for your model is here: http://www.seagate.com/files/staticfiles/docs/pdf/datasheet/disc/barracuda-ds1737-1-1111us.pdf ...get the specs from the other drives you already have or plan to employ. ...from there, it is simple maths. As said, I think you have 46A(mps) total to spend for drives in your array with that PSU.
