What UPS do you use

Featured Replies

So, about to finish my build.  I want to buy a new UPS, but curious what people are using out there.  I know the APC plugin allows to control/monitor the UPS, but Im somewhat confused as it lookslike the UPS would be connected to the network and that is how its controlled.  Does unRaid not detect the USB connection for UPS'?

Do you have this connected to the unRaid server and use the APC plugin? Is it connected via USB/Serial/Network???

APC Back-UPS Pro 1000G with the APC plugin. Works great.

I'm thinking why you think it hooks up to the network is because the USB cable uses an RJ-45 connector for the one side of the USB cable. You just plug the included cable into that port and the USB end into your server. Install the APC plugin and you should be good to go.

My unRAID server is using an APC Back-UPS XS-1500. Signature has a "Link to my server & hardware mods" with pictures (mostly of my server, but the UPS is in the background).

I do not have it set to auto-shutdown or have the USB attached at this point. I live in central FL (lightening capital of the US) & we get many 'brown outs' all year, but mostly in the summer months. Have yet to have a 'brown out' or 'black out' out last longer than my UPS, though any hurricane season could change that... but if a storm is coming, I 'hunker down' at home & can turn it off myself.

It only LOOKS like an rg45, but if you look closer you'll see it is a 10 pin connector, not an 8 pin as used on a LAN.

APC loves to force you to use a cable they sell.

(do not plug a network cable into the UPS where it asks you plug the other end of its USB cable, it could possibly damage something)

Interesting. I didn't looking that closely when I was putting it together.
