need solution for accessing comic collection on unraid

Featured Replies

hi all, have a great working setup, with all my media.  i have a collection of comics on my unraid server, and i'd love to be able to access them externally

for example, i can use an app called filebrowser to browse my collection, then open a comic in comic zeal on the ipad.  this works awesome when within my home network BUT i can't get this working outside my home network (even with port forwarding, etc)

any other suggestions on how to make the above option work, or any other options?

thanks!

Probably not the most elegant solution, but I use logmein.com to access my windows7 box at home, through which I have access to my unraid files.  The Pro service allows you to transfer files directly to the computer you are remoting in from, just map the unraid user shares or drives as windows folders.

With the free version you could also e-mail yourself the file while remoted in.

Yeah thats not bad but i dont want my pc on all the time...my unraid is on 24 7 so id like to just go direct

File browser sure works good from inside the house...wish i could get it working external

You don't have to have the windows box on all the time, just setup Wake on Lan, the machine can be powered right off, or sleeping, logmein.com will send a wake-up packet to boot the machine for you, and you can power it down when you are done!

The free version of logmein.com even supports wake on lan.

Or, if you setup your unraid server on VM, then you could remote into a windows VM on the same box.
