September 27, 200817 yr I run my syslog and found few errors with color indicating errors and a minor issue. Do I need to worry my server seems to be running fine? Minor issue: Tower kernel: spurious 8259A interrupt: IRQ7. Errors: Tower kernel: usb 2-2: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 2 Tower kernel: usb 2-2: device descriptor read/64, error -110 Tower kernel: usb 2-2: device descriptor read/64, error -110 Tower kernel: usb 2-2: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 3 Tower kernel: usb 2-2: device descriptor read/64, error -110 Tower kernel: usb 2-2: device descriptor read/64, error -110 Tower kernel: usb 2-2: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 4 Tower kernel: usb 2-2: device descriptor read/8, error -110 Tower kernel: usb 2-2: device descriptor read/8, error -110 Tower kernel: usb 2-2: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 5 Tower kernel: usb 2-2: device descriptor read/8, error -110 Tower kernel: usb 2-2: device descriptor read/8, error -110 Please help! September 28, 200817 yr Sorry for the delay getting back to you. Minor issue: Tower kernel: spurious 8259A interrupt: IRQ7. This 'spurious interrupt' message is not very common, but is not that rare either. I am not aware of any good reasons for spurious interrupts, but they seem to be harmless usually. Because I have seen several associated with real problems, I did mark this as a 'Minor issue', just so you are aware of it, but if your system is working fine, then you don't have a problem, and can ignore it. (How's that for an ambiguous answer?!?) As to the USB-related error lines, I have never seen them before. I note that in a previous syslog of yours, with what appeared to the unRAID server to be a CHESEN USB keyboard attached, these errors did not appear. Now, you are seeing them, with a ATEN ATEN-COMPOSITE keyboard device attached. Perhaps there is a problem with it. I don't have any experience understanding how the Linux kernel is identifying connected USB devices. If you will excuse some inexperience, it looks to me from the syslog as if you have a couple of the ATEN devices attached, plus a Logitech USB keyboard, plus a Logitech USB mouse, and possibly a PS/2 keyboard and mouse also! That seems highly unlikely, so I don't know why they are appearing. I want to guess that you have a KVM attached? KVM's are known to have little compatibility issues, especially with mice. Again, if the system is running fine, then you can probably ignore these too.
September 28, 200817 yr Author Hi RobJ, First of all thank you for the time you spent helping me understand these errors. I really appreciate your help. Because I have seen several associated with real problems, I did mark this as a 'Minor issue', just so you are aware of it, but if your system is working fine, then you don't have a problem, and can ignore it. (How's that for an ambiguous answer?!?) That answer is good enough for me. ;D I want to guess that you have a KVM attached? You're Genius! Your guess is 100% correct I am using KVM (IOGear brand). And yes I remove one USB keyboard (CHENSEN maybe a VIEWSONICS re-brand). Sometimes my wireless mouse/keyboard (Logitech) have connection problem with MVK so I have to use wired keyboard (Viewsonics). I am guessing ATEN ATEN-COMPOSITE is my MKV switch and re-brand as IOGear. Inexperience you said? I don't think so! You nailed every single one of them! ;D I am trully grateful that you take extra effort finding my previous syslog and compare with it. My system is running great so far and just want assurance that these errors are not going to cause anything serious. Thanks for eveything I don't have to worry now!
