I'm trying to set up access to my server for my son. I set up a user name and password for him on the server. Now when i go to his computer to right click on the share folder and map it as a drive it asks for a user name and password to which i put in the one i created on the server. But it keeps saying its the wrong password. I'm not sure i am doing it correct so any help or a point in the right direction would be great.

OK.  i just tried to set it up on my computer under my sons account. I went into network and right clicked on the folder i wanted to share. Which was movies. It asked for user name and password and i entered his user name and password that i set up on the tower and it worked. So now im trying to give access to my music folder and repeated the same steps but this time it says access denied. I cant seem to give him access to that music folder. I checked the settings  on the tower and there both the same for each folder and are set to read only.

 

Any ideas!

Use the same login name and password on the server as on Windows.

I did set the user name and password as the same as his windows log in and password. It lets me into one folder but not the other. It says access denied.

What version of unRAID and how do you have the share set?

Im running 5.0 rc8

 

Things have just gotten worse. Now i cant access my shares that i have set up on my windows account. It tells me check that the drive is not disconnected. I'm like WTF now? So i go to network connections and type in \\tower and nothing. I can log into my sons account and go to network connections and type \\tower and everything works fine. I can see the drives in my computer. So now im totally confused. I delete my sons user account on the server and set all folders back to public and still i cant access my shares or even see them in network connections under \\tower.

 

Im lost.

I will work on it again tomorrow as im at work right now.

You might also try deleting the windows credentials just to get everything back to a good starting point.

 

From a windows command prompt, type net use * /delete

 

 

Try stopping and starting the array.

OK. First thing i did was reboot my router then I disconnected all my shares from my computer and then went to network and  typed \\tower and it did not work so then I typed \\ ###.###.#.### the ip address and bingo all my shares and flash all showed up.Pheww! So then i re added all my shares by re mapping them and now there all back in my computer. No w back to the original problem. Then i re added my son as a user in the web console of unraid  and added my son and set the shares as secure and as read only. Now im just going to go to his computer and set it up there and see if its working. I will post my findings.

Well i went up to my son computer and logged in under his windows account and added my shares movies folder to his computer and it added just fine but when i add my music folder share it asks for a user name and password so it type in the user name and password i set up for him on the unraid server which is the same user name and password he uses to log into windows but it wont accept it. Weird!! I tried my log in password and nada. Then i tried my wifi password and still nothing. Im not sure what to do now.

So are you using \\tower or are you using ip?

 

One thing I have found is that windows keeps credentials separately for dns and ip.

 

Most of my shares I want to use my regular windows login so I don't have to login when I try to access them and I access them with the dns name, but I have one share that uses a user name that doesn't exist on my windows machine and in order to get windows to make me login to it I use the ip when accessing it, otherwise I get access denied.

 

What do you get from the windows command prompt if you do

net use

?

Are you certain the account has the correct permission in the share setup?

Yea all my share folders are set to secure and my son has read only access. All are set the same. On my computer i can only access my shares by ip now for some strange reason. I used to use \\tower all the time. On my sons computer i access the shares by \\tower on his account and mine. I can create a share called movies for him and i tried to delete a file through his account and it could not. Which is what i want. But the music folder i cant set up as i cant get past the user name and password. I have tried both through \\tower and ip to access music share but i cant get passed the user and password. All the other share folders set up with no problems.

Try stopping  and restarting the array.
