[SOLVED] /dev/usblp0: No such file or directory

Hey Guys,

I upgraded from rc8 (or was it rc5) to 11 lately and everything went smoothly apart from this log which pops up every few seconds. I am not sure what it is in relation to but at the moment I have rc11 and only cache dirs running along with some packages from the package manager. I think this message may be in relation to the printer driver I am using "p910nd Shared Printer driver" which has the printer port set as "usblp0". My brother also said he tried to print something and it didn't work.

Thanks very much for the help.

Please see my syslog for more information

I had to remove some of the syslog as it was exceeding but it was just the message repeated over and over and nothing else.

Well, disable the printer service.

killall p9100d

or

kill `cat /var/run/p9100d.pid`

should do it.

It did not find a printer device since your printer was not found.

Thanks guys.

I reinstalled the driver after a reboot as I had to print some things and the printer worked as normal. The messages seemed to have stopped now. I wont see it again til next weekend but I will mark this solved as I think its sorted now and I am reassured that it was only the printer. Thank you.

edit: yeah sorted, thanks all:)

Hey guys,

edit: I had this problem before (last unraid upgrade) and I got it resolved. I didn't document anything I did to solve it outside of this post so I assume i just reinstalled the package and rebooted

I upgraded unraid to the latest beta at the weekend and everything is good apart from my printer.

I am getting this same message constantly filling my log

Jun 25 16:11:27 Tower p9100d[11238]: /dev/usblp0: No such file or directory
Jun 25 16:11:27 Tower p9100d[11238]: /dev/usblp0: No such file or directory, will try opening later

I noticed gcc was disabled so I re-enabled that and restarted in case it needed a fresh compile on a new version of unraid (?)

I have reinstalled about 6/7 times now with different parameters and the printer off then on etc but I can't get it working again.

my current parameters are:

port : usblp0

bi-directional : NO

scripts : YES

ls -l /dev/u*

Linux 3.9.6p-unRAID.
root@Tower:~# ls -l /dev/u*
crw-rw-rw- 1 root root 1, 9 Jun 25 15:56 /dev/urandom

/dev/usb:
total 0
crw-rw---- 1 root lp 180, 0 Jun 25 16:01 lp0

ps -ef | grep p910

root@Tower:~# ps -ef | grep p910
root     11238     1  0 15:57 ?        00:00:00 /usr/sbin/p9100d -f /dev/usblp0
root     27375 26066  0 16:17 pts/0    00:00:00 grep p910

I noticed the Dependencies: bzip2, gcc compiler, make.

I am not sure if I have 'make'. Could this be the reason?

thanks alot.

I suggest that you post in the p9100d thread in order to attract people with the required expertise.

Off the top of my head, it looks as if usblp0 is incorrect and it should be usb/lp0 instead.

thanks alot dgaschk for the advice.

I will try your suggestion and if it doesn't work I will ask in the printer thread you mention - I was thinking of posting there before but I had this thread from a while ago and its the same problem so I went here.

Appreciate your help :)

edit: you got it Dgaschk, that made it work. I actually didnt think it would work but it did. Thanks very much! :)
