February 9, 201313 yr version 5.0-rc11 windows 8 pro I can successfully ping the server and vise versa. I can successfully reach the web interface using "//unraid/" (which I changed the name to) or "//my.server.ip.address" (which is static). I have triple checked the user group name and it is correct. I can't see the drive under "network" nor can I map to the share using the tower name or ip. I can successfully connect to the server on a second machine running windows 7 with no issues so I am assuming its a W8 issue. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Scott
February 9, 201313 yr Are you using a local account? (As opposed to the new MS account to sign in). If details are the same (for local account) in unraid it should work without altering anything.
February 10, 201313 yr Using a local account, you may also need to make sure you have the less secure browsing options enabled for a local network. This is what I have done on my Windows 8 machines... Under - Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center Make sure your current Network is listed as a Private Network. This will allow some of the required component settings to allow normal internal network browsing. (A.K.A. intranet settings.) Then select "Select advanced sharing settings" This takes you to: Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center\Advanced sharing settings Under Private (which should show as curent profile); Select Turn on network discovery. You may also wish to enable file and printer sharing now. The homegroup options are unused with unRAID... Under All Networks; You may need to enable 40 or 56 bit encryption instead of 128-bit encryption depending on what devices you intend to connect to and with your Windows 8 computer. If I remember correctly, I did not need to do this for unRAID, but I did for some of my older devices on network. In my case, since I also wanted to share folders on my Windows 8 machine with other computers, including XP... I also selected "Turn off password protected sharing". ********** ALSO for proper browsing and page web access in Internet Explorer I needed to also set and allow intranet settings there...
February 22, 201313 yr Author thank you both for your replies. I had made a few changes to the "services" when I initially loaded W8. I tried to set them back to how the defaults were but ended up installing a fresh copy of the OS. my unraid box was visible as soon as I turned my htpc on after the reinstall so apparently I had turned some services off that we're affecting networking. unfortunately I'm not sure which ones they were but the problem is now solved. thanks again for the replies
