Help 2 red ball drives & can't start array

Recommended Posts

after getting  a parity check everytime I restarted my 2nd tower,

disk 5 was earmarked as failed.

I thought it best to do a party check my 1st tower which had been running ok,

but disk 7 came up red balled.

I had few spares but went & got another so that I had 4 in total (2wd red).

tower 2 had room to add drives with an empty 4-3 cooler master drive bay.

I pull all the leads from the m/b & power leads except to the top 8 drives.

added 2 more 2tb (wd red to replace parity at some point).

hooked after arranging hard drives the way I wanted.

I had issues as a couple of drives not in correct location I could not swapp locations of existing disks,

I could add new of all drive not in correct locations, I had to trial & error to get right drives in correct location from

onboard sata connections until I got it down to 2 drives, disk 4 & 7.

I read some forums & saw something about a correct tab (which I don't have).

I backed up both usb to my pc  but t2 I could not copy secrets.tdb.

I notice that t1 had a few more files so I replaced these onto the t2 usb.

I could finally put the hdd in the correct locations.

parity check proved that dsk 5 was ok.

but tower 1 I was able to swap the fault disk with another in the box, did a parity check but now disk 3 is red balled.

I needed to rearrange & remove 1st faulty disk.

I removed my 5 way icy dock & 4-3 cooler master.

I made another 5 way & figured out the I could get both 5 ways into 5 bays

(alum stip screwed to disk & a top or bottom plate).

rewired but on  1st reboot 8 way sata card was not found & there was a clicking noise.

try several things then discovered a power cable pin not in molex properly fixed.

but even with 2 new spare hdd attached disk 3 & 4 are red balled, disk 4 (Sea rebuilt) was only showing 5mb instead of 1.5tb.

I cant start the array because disk3 is the original red balled & I need to attach a newer disk4 because disk 4 is cactus.

I can get a blue dot for disk 3 if I put a new disk to it.

But I cant start the array I conclude that I will probably lose some data from disk 4 but even with correct disk 3.

I can either have 2 red dots or a blue & a red but neither will let me start the array

can any body help me get it going again.

My systems are both are 4.7 pro, i3 '1156' asus p7h55 m with 4 gb of ram & each has a Supermicro Aoc saslp-mv8  cards.

tower 1 has 5 x 2tb, 8 x 1.5tb hdd, added 2 port astrotek pcie x1 card

tower 2 has 14 x 2tb, skymaster 2x pcie x1 card.
