How long did you wait ? Adding disks to the array takes some time..

It can take a LOT longer than that if you have not previously pre-cleared the drive. I would think a 2TB disk would take something of the order of 5 hours and a 3TB one more like 8 hours.  Did you have a chance to see if the disk activity light was on for the new drive - if it is doing this pre-clear activity it should be on solidly during that process.

The problem is that when you try and add a disk to an existing array unRAID tries to write zeroes to every sector on the disk and this can take a long time with modern large disks.  This step is necessary to ensure that parity remains valid so existing data stays protected.  There is a pre-clear.sh script you can run (available from the User Customizations part of the forum) that can be used in advance of adding the disk, and this script writes a special signature to the drive on completion that unRAID will recognize as meaning it can skip doing that step itself so that disks can be added to the array in seconds.

Another advantage of running the pre-clear.sh script before adding the disk to the array is that it acts as a stress test for the drive and checks that it does not show signs of failing (10-20% of new disks seem to fail very early in their life).
