February 19, 201313 yr Hi everyone, I need some help to decide. I decided to start using unRAID instead off windows 7 as server for all my media at home. I own following things: Motherboard ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131790 CPU: Intel Core i3-3220T Ivy Bridge http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116776 Memory: Kingston HyperX 8GB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104173 Im gonna aim to be using 10 Hard drives when i´m done whit the server. So here is what i need help to decide about. I´m about to order an AOC-SAS2LP-MV8 that i´m gonna use on the system i own and would like some input from peoples if this is gonna work good together (stable)? Or if i should buy a new Motherboard (Supermicro X9SCM-F-B) and (Kingston 4GB 1600MHz DDR3 ECC) while i´m at it. But since i get 2* 3TB Hard drives for the cost of the Motherboard and Memory i´m having a hard time to decide. I want the system to work good from start and maby i will run into compatibility issues? Best Reg Trixag
February 19, 201313 yr The X9SCM-F-B has known issues with write speed. It is still unknown how and where they are comming from but the issues happen a lot with this board. There is a bandaid solution that helps but I would hold off on buying this specific board till Tom has come back on his testing with it.. The processor is a good choice, I have the same and it never maxes out no matter what I throw at it, no issues with speed and the processor can be cooled easily, I have removed the cooler you get with the CPU and replaced it with a Cooler Master Hyper 612S, from this cooler I have removed the fan and it keeps the CPU nice and cool without any fan running.
February 19, 201313 yr First off thanks for the quick reply!! I found another site here in Sweden that sells one called X9SCM-F only whitout the -B but the -B only indicates its sold as bulk so its probably the same Motherboard right? Do you experience the write speed issues your self or are you using the bandaid solution you talking about? Ah i better only buy the Sata card the and try it out. And if its not working ill look for a new Motherboard then.
February 19, 201313 yr I have the F ... And I do experience the issue although for me personally it is not to much of an issue, it becomes an issue if you regularly want to move a lot of data around, I don;t..
