Purchasing Keys From Others

Featured Replies

I agree it's very nice of Tom to accommodate changing the registration;  but that is NOT the same as allowing you to transfer the key to a different flash drive.    The comment that "... In this case the owner purchased a license not a usb drive ..." is technically true, but what's also true is that the license he purchased is TIED to that flash drive.

So you have bought a license for a flash drive with GUID xxxxxxxx.    The value of that license without the flash drive is ZERO ... since it requires that flash drive to run the software.    To advertise an UnRAID license for sale you don't plan to ship with the associated flash drive is almost unethical ... at least if you don't point out that it's a worthless license without the flash drive.

Tom does not (as far as I know) and absolutely SHOULD NOT allow you to move a license to a new flash drive except in the case of a flash drive failure.    I definitely appreciate that (I had a flash drive fail ~ 2 years or so ago and he was very quick at accommodating me);  but even that is above and beyond what he HAS to do.    He could easily require returning a defective flash drive before he issued a replacement GUID ... but that would only add to his workload, and I don't think his generous warranty provisions are being misused by his customer base, so it's not really necessary.
