February 22, 201313 yr I just noticed that my syslog contains the following: Feb 21 14:13:33 NAS ntpd[1487]: time reset +0.268963 s Feb 21 14:14:40 NAS ntpd[1487]: synchronized to 140.99.51.114, stratum 3 Feb 21 15:38:10 NAS ntpd[1487]: time reset -0.142424 s Feb 21 15:38:24 NAS ntpd[1487]: synchronized to 140.99.51.114, stratum 3 Feb 21 20:44:12 NAS ntpd[1487]: time reset +0.247658 s Feb 21 20:45:24 NAS ntpd[1487]: synchronized to 140.99.51.114, stratum 3 Feb 21 20:59:35 NAS kernel: mdcmd (930): spindown 1 (Routine) Feb 21 21:32:35 NAS in.telnetd[13623]: connect from 192.168.1.6 (192.168.1.6) (Routine) Feb 21 21:32:40 NAS login[13625]: ROOT LOGIN on `pts/2' from `192.168.1.6' (Logins) Feb 21 22:32:08 NAS ntpd[1487]: time reset -0.372699 s Feb 21 22:33:44 NAS ntpd[1487]: synchronized to 140.99.51.114, stratum 3 Feb 21 23:03:45 NAS ntpd[1487]: time reset +0.457047 s Feb 21 23:04:29 NAS ntpd[1487]: synchronized to 140.99.51.114, stratum 3 Feb 21 23:36:38 NAS ntpd[1487]: time reset -0.286773 s Feb 21 23:40:16 NAS ntpd[1487]: synchronized to 140.99.51.114, stratum 3 It strikes me as quite odd that it would be syncing the clock so frequently. I had been seeing the ntpd call about 1x/day, but the last 2-3 days, it's gone nuts. Any ideas why? unRAID 4.7 TIA FreeMan

Any ideas why? unRAID 4.7 TIA FreeMan Either: A. you are (frequently) going through some kind of time-warp usually associated with travel at near light-speed or B. the network latency to your network-time-provider is drastically changing. or C. Your real-time-clock on your motherboard is not keeping accurate time. My best guess is "C" It could be the battery on the motherboard needs replacing, since it usually powers the real-time-clock. February 22, 201313 yr A. you are (frequently) going through some kind of time-warp usually associated with travel at near light-speed I laughed more than I should, thanks for that.
