Can't create a share, getting crazy....

Featured Replies

Hello,

I'm really getting crazy... I installed unraid 5 rc 11 with simple features, but I can't seem to get it working. I have my user interface on the website, everything is nice and well... But I can't create any shares... I click the share tab, add share, I name it : Movies ,

comments: these are movies ,

high water,

0kb free space

no split lvl ,

include all disks

exclude none.

Click add share , but it doesn't appear in the share list... Also how do I know if it's shared through smb ftp nfs ?? ....

Is it a bug  :'( ?

edit: both my parity disk and data disks are empty

Thanks in advance, Hope somebody can help me ;)

edit2:

after reading this:

By default, unRAID creates a share for each disk in the array (eg. \\tower\disk1, \\tower\disk2, etc). However, unRAID also supports the concept of User Shares. You can create folders in each of the disk shares, and then a user folder will "aggregate" all of the content from each share into one share with that folder name. So, if you have \\tower\disk1\DVD and \\tower\disk2\DVD, a user share can be created for \\tower\DVD. To turn on user shares, go to the Shares menu item. Select an option from the User Shares dropdown. If you want the shares to be read-only, select "Export read-only."

I think the problem is that my disks are empty :S, But how do I create a folder on the disk?

There is another menu location that also covers shares. Go to:

"Settings", which is a page split in two with:

Network Services: AFP, FTP, NFS, SMB

Other Settings: Date and Time, Disk Settings, Identification, Network Settings, Share Settings

Click on "Share Settings" and ensure the following:

'Enable User Shares' = 'Yes'

'Included disk(s)' = empty or includes the disks you want to have shared

'Excluded disk(s)' = empty or includes the disks you don't want to have shared

I've raised a bug previously with Lime Technology on the confusion of having shares in two locations. I believe it is due to be fixed at some point, or better messages presented to the user.

Does that help?

Also are there any errors in your system log related to the time you are creating the shares?

I am truly amazed someone who has never played with the product, loaded a major plugin immediately and decided this would be the best way to tinker around and learn unRaid. Good luck And thanks for polluting the RC bug forum!

TY wombat ;)

Yes, user share is on (without user share, the share tab isn't visible.)

I can see the disk1 share on my windows 7 computer, but when I try to create a folder on the disk it says I don't have permissions to do that. If I understand right, I need to create a folder on my data disk, and unraid will list it automatically under the shares tab.

When I try to manualy create the directory Movies with mkdir on the disk1, it says the filesystem is read only, where can I change this?

edit: I fixed it , the filesystem on my HDD was corrupt, runned a disk check, fixed it ;)

Thank you :)

Does anybody if it's possible to disable the \\tower\disk1 share? or password protect it?

Ya, click on the disk link on the main page and turn the export off.
