Replacing a Disk without Valid Parity

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I am running unRAID v5.0rc11.  What I have is a problem with my Disk4 whereby it seems to have bad sectors.  I initially thought my parity drive was faulty and thus changed it out with another drive but after trying to do a parity sync with the new drive found the process bombed after about 80% and that there where a stack of read errors on Disk4.

After accessing the drive directly through the drive share i found I couldn't read data etc.  What I have done is copied across all that data that I could and am not concerned about whatever is lost, however now when I come to change over drives with a new unit I get the error "Too Many drive errors" and cannot start the array.

Keep in mind I have no valid parity drive and have unassigned it and taken the physical unit, I want to replace Drive4 and thereafter rebuild the parity.

Please help.

Thanks in advance!

I order to recover disk4 you'll need to replace the original parity drive.

On Utils tab use the new config.

On Utils tab use the new config.

if i understand that command correctly, that will trash his parity and he will not be able to rebuild the data on disk4...therefore loosing it all.

or am i mistaken?

Unless I have misread his OP he doesn't want to rebuild disk4. He just wants to start over with a new disk4 and rebuild parity.

my mistake, i didn't see the part where he says he isn't concered about lost data.

Thanks for the replies, just to be clear before I go and hit the New Config button, I am not worried about drive 4, I want to replace it with a new unit and bring it into the array and then rebuild the parity.

Thanks again!

yea, if you don't care about any data loss, the new config button will do what you want.
