lionelhutz
Pending sectors are bad. If another disk fails they can cause that disk to not be rebuilt properly. Quote Link to comment

peter_sm
I have done the pree clear of the 1.5TB gisk. Not sure if this is disk safe to use , but in some log I see that the sectors have been fixed... And I found some guide, perhaps something in here is useful, what do you think Joe L.? anything that might be useful to make a script for maintenance of disk?? Is if it's not possible to repair, is it then possible to make this disk partition smaller so these sectors are not part of the partition http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net/badblockhowto.html http://daemon-notes.com/articles/system/smartmontools/current-pending smart_mid_pending_reallocate_sdd 11 sectors were pending re-allocation after pre-read in cycle 1 of 1. 0 sectors were pending re-allocation after zero of disk in cycle 1 of 1. smart_start_sdd Disk: /dev/sdd smartctl 5.40 2010-10-16 r3189 [i486-slackware-linux-gnu] (local build) Copyright (C) 2002-10 by Bruce Allen, http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net === START OF INFORMATION SECTION === Model Family: Western Digital Caviar Green family Device Model: WDC WD15EADS-00P8B0 Serial Number: WD-WMAVU0799207 Firmware Version: 01.00A01 User Capacity: 1,500,301,910,016 bytes Device is: In smartctl database [for details use: -P show] ATA Version is: 8 ATA Standard is: Exact ATA specification draft version not indicated Local Time is: Sat Mar 2 06:48:47 2013 CET SMART support is: Available - device has SMART capability. Harpz
Hi I'm no expert but on the finished smartreport I still see sectors Pending: 197 Current_Pending_Sector 0x0032 200 200 000 Old_age Always - 13 These also increased indicating sectors were flagged. 196 Reallocated_Event_Count 0x0032 187 187 000 Old_age Always - 13 5 Reallocated_Sector_Ct 0x0033 178 178 140 Pre-fail Always - 175 If there are indeed pending sectors I would run another pre-clear to see if i could get rid of them. Bear in mind though in no expert still learning how to interpret these things myself. Quote Link to comment
dikkiedirk
If it was my disk I would check if I could RMA the disk. I wouldn't trust the disk anymore. My experience is that once a disk starts developing the bad sectors more will appear after some time. If you gonna use it, monitor it. Quote Link to comment
dgaschk
The disk is not safe to use unless the pending sector count is zero and remains there. Quote Link to comment

peter_sm
After another new preeclear it looks like this! "197 Current_Pending_Sector 0x0032 200 200 000 Old_age Always - 0" is this a step forward? going to do another preeclear right now to to see what happens. mbryanr
What was the reason the test was "aborted by host"? The other tests were read failures. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using Tapatalk 2 Quote Link to comment

prostuff1
Clear it again, but I would not likely be trusting that disk. It is likely on it's last leg. Quote Link to comment
peter_sm
I have some hope one more try, if not good, I put the disk in the bin. Quote Link to comment
Joe L.
I have some hope one more try, if not good, I put the disk in the bin. If no additional un-readable sectors show up in the next preclear, I'd say you can give it a try, but keep an eye on it. Quote Link to comment
