parity keeps being read for no reason

Featured Replies

hi all,

currently running 5.0-rc11

I recently upgraded my parity and one of my data drives. I added the new parity drive and rebuilt it successfully to 4tb. I then upgraded one of my data drives to 4tb. All has been completed successfully.

The strange problem is that if i open media on the upgraded data drive the parity will spin up and and it will write and read around 3. Not sure what the number refers to. Its only happening with media that i open up on the upgraded drive and it only happens once. So if i open the same file again the parity is not spun up.

I have completed a parity check and zero errors occured. I did a pre-clear on both drives and it was 100% clean.

thank you for any help.

Very often, a program "opening" a file is not just reading it... but writing too.

Install the "inotofy tools" package, watch the activity on the data disk, and you'll see exactly what it is doing.

spinning up the parity disk and wrting to it are two entirely different things.  It may share a spinup group with your data drive and be spun up.

I saw no "CLOSE_WRITE" entries in your small sample of output.  So I do not see any "writing" going on within those lines.
