February 28, 201313 yr I recently purchased a Gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2P (rev. 5.1) motherboard and was surprised to find that it had an Atheros GbE LAN chip. unRIAD was unable to initialize this Atheros NIC as apparently it is unsupported. (To be fair, I did not try to boot any other OS to see if the NIC was not actually defective.) At least some of the earlier versions of this motherboard had a Realtec 8111E NIC--according to the Gigabyte website. I am posting this as a warning to others who might be considering this motherboard.
April 23, 201313 yr Frank, I just ordered this board, in to deep to go back. How did you resolve? NIC add-on card?
April 23, 201313 yr Author Frank, I just ordered this board, in to deep to go back. How did you resolve? NIC add-on card? I had ordered the board from Amazon and I returned it with a day of receiving it. (I am an Amazon Prime Member and they even paid for the return shipping.)
April 23, 201313 yr Interesting, it looks like they used to have the Realtek 8111E on the earlier revisions of this board, then switched to Atheros for revision 5. Guess I'll use the Intel NIC card I have.
