March 3, 201313 yr Basically all down my case I have these things that come out to cradle drive cages, however, no 5 in 3 drive cages I can find seem to have anything but a flat edge. If I bought these cages, how would I place them in the case? Would I just need to bend the notch out of place or what?
March 3, 201313 yr Author Yep! You can bend them down with a C-clamp, or use a nibbler. Can't tell if attempting to make a joke... ...or a real tool called a "nibblier" I've never heard of. See what I did there? I used a Futurama meme to your Futurama joke. Anyway, another thing:- Assuming I bend them down, what will hold the drive cage in place before I screw it in? It seems like it's going to make the whole process insanely hard. :'(

March 3, 201313 yr Hold in place with hand or lay on one side insert screws and flip. Really easy actually. Tabs have no use IMHO. Sent from my SGH-I727R using Tapatalk 2

Anyway, I guess I'll get a cage or two, thanks.
March 3, 201313 yr I just put the cages in from the bottom up. The bottom one actually sits on the bottom so is held up. Then put in one on top of that cage. Repeat at any time until case full of cages.
March 3, 201313 yr The tabs are basically in there to make screwing the case in a bit easier.. I find it easiest to bend them up and down so they will break off.. Be carefull with "dremeling" them off, that will spull iron into your case with chance of all kind of misery (unless ofcourse you are working in a virgin case with nothing in there yet, then a dremel would actually be the easiest.
March 5, 201313 yr Get your self one of these 8" Deep Throat C-Clamps if you have a harbor freight around, http://www.harborfreight.com/8-inch-deep-throat-c-clamp-45917.html. Works like a champ. Make sure you don't bend the tab up. I did on one of mine and it is a pain.
March 6, 201313 yr Don't I feel like the fool now for using the brute-force method of using a hammer to hit them down and then a screwdriver to pry them backwards.
March 6, 201313 yr Assuming I bend them down, what will hold the drive cage in place before I screw it in? Errr ... did anyone say that you bend them all down? Just bend two out of every three (the ones which get in the way) - the third one will provide support for the cage.
March 7, 201313 yr Author Or bend them all and hold the case while screwing it in, I did. Yeah, I'll just do that. I'll buy some cages next time I need a HDD (Got all 8 of my current slots full, but, I only have 8 drives so...).
