Hi all, I'm setting up my first Unraid box.  I setup my flash drive w/ ver 4.7 and then started preclearing two 3TB drives.  I then learned that I need to be running Unraid 5 to support 3tb drives.

 

So, since this is a new setup and I have two precleared drives with nothing in my current array I assume I can just download Unraid 5, blow away my current flash drive, set up the unraid files and reboot my server which would then recognize the signature of the precleared drives and be able to add them straight away, right?

 

Also, since I've not used (or received) the registration key that I ordered I assume I'll have no problem using it as the key is tied to the drive, not the OS, right?

 

Please confirm and let me know if I'm missing anything...

Just replace the bzroot and bzimage files on your 4.7 flashdrive with the ones out of the 5 version zipfile. That is all that is needed.

Also, I assume that between version 5.0rcX and 5.0rcXa that "Xa" is the newer of the two?

Registration key will work on any computer/server/mac/anything that'll boot unraid, assuming that the flash drive has a unique GUID.

 

@Helmonder, considering he hasn't got any settings personally I'd say completely wipe it. I'm not too sure what files changed, but, I can't think that having 4.7 configuration files will do it any good, so, it'll either be the same or worse, and, he's only going to waste ~ a minute formatting and re-extracting.

You can, but the rest is the same..

So far all I've done are the steps int the configuration guide up through preclearing so setting up unmenu was the most involved thing but will be easy to reconfigure.

Yes, 11a is more recent.

so, I've upgraded to 5.0... Then I assigned my two drives which had already been precleared with Unraid 4.7 they are both showing up as unformatted in the free space column.

 

Does that mean that 5.0 is not recognizing them as precleared?

Scratch that last question, my apologies.  I was rushing and just read in the tutorial that I still need to format.  Next time I'll RTFM before I post!
