March 4, 201313 yr Hi, I have a bizarre hardware problem that's not really unraid related but I thought I would ask here and see if anyone had an idea. I have a computer that annoyingly will not wake from sleep or restart unless I reset the cmos (remove the battery). This started about 2 months ago after I came back from a long vacation...it had been sleeping the whole time. Its a ubuntu desktop, core i7 920, 12GB RAM, 2x SSD, 5x HDDs, and a G210 graphics card hooked into an Asus P6T board. I'm powering it with a corsair 430 psu. Maybe its not getting enough power on boot? I dunno, but why would a cmos reset make it start? Maybe someone else has a better idea...
March 4, 201313 yr Have you already tried replacing the CMOS battery with a new one? Having to force a reset sounds like the CMOS settings keep getting corrupted, one of the possible symptoms of a dying battery...
March 5, 201313 yr Author Yeah, I thought about that. It's that's a good explanation and cheap to test. I'll get a new battery and see. Thanks for the suggestion.

I was at my local Tescos the other day and I saw a two pack of those batteries for ~ 10GBP. I wouldn't call that cheap, compared to AA/9V batteries.

Fingers crossed that this fixes it. Thank you all.

March 27, 201313 yr Author Hi all, so all was good for several weeks but now the issue is back. I dunno maybe something is draining the battery constantly? Any other ideas?
March 27, 201313 yr Are you careful in your handling of the battery - even natural grease from your fingers can increase the current drain significantly. It is best if you never touch the battery, but use plastic tweezers. I've seen staff in one shop, who obviously knew that they shouldn't touch the battery, use a pair of metal tweezers bridging the poles!
March 27, 201313 yr +1 ...you can also wear a cotton-material clove or use a handkerchief when handling the battery cells.
March 27, 201313 yr Author Hmm, didn't know this was so critical. Of course I did handle it with bare hands. I'll grab another one and see what happens.
