Networking/DNS issues

Featured Replies

So, I just got up and running with 5.0-rc11... I had previously set up 4.7 and precleared two 3tb drives before realizing I needed 5.0 for 3tb... I replaced bzroot and bzimage with the 5.0 files and booted successfully.

I formatted my two drives and renamed my server.  Since then I've been having some strange networking issues... I can't seem to access my server by name via the web interface or via telnet... the only way I've been able to access is by running an ifconfig from a keyboard/monitor attached to the server and then using the unraid IP address to pull up the web interface.  For a brief time while I've been trying to troubleshoot this I was able to access the server by name but now I can't seem to replicate that.

Changing the server name back to Tower didn't seem to help... I still had to access the server by IP and it's not showing up on my Windows network (previously it was)

Any ideas?  Any information I can provide?

ok... so I changed the server name back to tower and then powered down my desktop, the server my router and modem... fired everything back up and seem to be able to telnet into the server and access the web interface by name... Is there any known issue with changing the server name on 5.0 or do I just need to to make sure to reboot all the components first?

There is an issue with changing the server name on any version if you do not reboot all devices connected to your network.  This problem will auto-rectify itself if you leave things long enough but that can take many hours (or even days).

This issue is not limited to unRAID - the same thing can happen if you change the network names of PC's.
